Scunthorpe Arts Centre Renovations Complete.

Scunthorpe's 2021 centre has finished its ÂŁ590,000 renovation.

The renovation of the new arts centre has seen a new gift shop, cafe, meeting rooms, toilets and baby changing facilities.

The upgrade, which has been the first since the sites opening back in 2001 is hoped to accommodate more visitors and exhibitionists.

The new renovation is hoped to help support more local artists who exhibition in the centre and those who sell products in the gift shop.

Denise Farmy from Arts Council England, spoke to Viking FM is hopeful it will become a space for the local community...

'That’s just as important to us that people feel that this is a venue for their community that they can engage with. And hopefully they enjoy the work that's here to'.

John Briggs, the local cabinet member for Culture explained to Viking FM that to encourage local arts to thrive there needs to be the facilities available...

'The impact brings us up to date, takes us into the future. But it’s about realistically how can we display and celebrate art.'

Viking FM also spoke to local Artist Karen Raithby who hopes this will encourage more engagement in the arts from the local community...

' They've been trying to get out into the community and the community into the art gallery, and now they've got a fantastic showcase to carry on that work.'
