Police Appeal For Help In Finding Absconded Hull Murderer
William Kerr is wanted for emergency recall to prison after breaching his licence.
A convicted Hull murderer who has been on the run for a month, will feature on Crimewatch tonight.
53-year-old William Kerr, who was jailed for life for murder in 1998, is wanted for emergency recall to prison after breaching his licence.
He's described as being "very dangerous" and police say he must be located as a matter of urgency.
He absconded from approved premises in Hull last month and despite a nationwide manhunt and a £5,000 reward for information leading to his arrest, he remains at large.
It's believed he could be in the London area and may be trying to book into a hostel or other accommodation using a false name as he has done previously.
People are being asked that if they do see him, not to approach him but instead to call the police immediately.
North Yorkshire Police are leading the search for Kerr. Detective Inspector Eamonn Clarke told Viking FM:
“Kerr is a very dangerous man, so if you see him, please do not approach him. Dial 999 right away and we will send officers to investigate.
"We have had a number of calls and a number of sightings which we have followed up. We had some interest in the London area and there is some investigation work ongoing into that and we have had some other calls from different parts of the UK, but unfortunately as it stands at the moment we have been unable to locate him.
"We know that he boarded a train on the evening of Thursday 25th March and went to travel to London where in the early hours of the Friday morning he disembarked at Kings Cross. We know from CCTV that he left that train station but after then we are pretty much in the dark as to his whereabouts.
"Prior to Mr Kerr being convicted back in 1998 for murder, he did abscond prior to being charged and what we have been able to find out is that he used false names to book himself into hostels in the London area.
"It's difficult to explain how dangerous Kerr is. We know that he has previously been convicted of murder and it doesn't get any more serious that that and we are hopeful that we will find Mr Kerr, with the help from the public, prior to him committing any more offences.
"If anybody knows his whereabouts or can provide any information which would assist us in locating him, call your local police station if it is some information you can pass. If you know his wherabouts, then call 999."
