The leader for Hull City Council says the reason the city gets badly infected is because more people aren’t working from home compared to other cities.

This week, Hull saw the highest rate of infections in England since November last year and with non-essential shop to re-open in just over three weeks’ time, more people are going to be heading down to the shops.

Cllr Stephen Brady, Leader of Hull City Council said: “The rates are still too high, a lot of it is focused on the amount of people who have to go out and do manual work rather than work from home.”

The council will be encouraging more people to sit outside when visiting the city centre.

Cllr Brady, said: “We are giving temporary agreement to as much seating outside that is safely possible and hopefully, we do have some good weather where people can enjoy the city centre.”

“We expect every business to be following the rules laid down by the governments. People need to remember being close to someone in a shop, you could come out with COVID.”
