Two men have been arrested after an alleged assault in Grimsby yesterday (09/04) where a man sustained injuries.

Police say they believe an axe was used during an incident, and that the man is receiving treatment in hospital.

His injuries, whilst serious, are not thought to be life-threatening at this time.

Two men have been arrested, a 32-year-old on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and a 37-year-old on suspicion of affray.

Detective Inspector Darren Gray said: “We are currently in the early stages of our investigation, and I know an incident of this nature is likely to cause concern to the local community but I would like to offer my reassurance that we do believe this to be an isolated incident.

“Both men remain in our custody whilst our enquiries continue to understand the circumstances around the incident.

“Local residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area over the next few days, conducting patrols and providing reassurance to the community. I would encourage anyone who may have concerns to please come and speak to our officers.

“Anyone who has any information, or has CCTV or dashcam footage which may assist with our enquiries can contact us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 321 of 9 April.”
