A major operation to tackle a range of crimes from drug dealing to domestic abuse and sex offences, among other issues, is launching across East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire.

Humberside police will be targeting hotspot areas across the region in Operation Shield which lasts for three months.

There'll be extra resources in certain hotspot areas where there's been reports of wrong doing.

They've already made arrests following a drugs raid in Bridlington.

People want drugs off the streets

We were there and spoke to police.

PC Gary Whittaker said "People want drugs off the street and it just stops that anti social behaviour and the overall crime related to drug use and drug dealing."

We also spoke to Humberside Chief Constable Paul Anderson who said:

"We're still letting people down - we're not perfect - we're just not going to rest."

"We're going to identify those committing the harm and have a real targeted drive at arresting them. "

We will be relentless in pursuing and targeting criminals

"Operation Shield will be relentless in pursuing and targeting criminals who bring distress and harm to our communities over the next three months, with the work in the last four days alone testament to our commitment and dedication."

It launched earlier this week so far 27 arrests have been made and 16 people charged for various drugs offences, however to protect the investigations we’ve only been able to release this information and the launch of the op today.
