Locals in Hessle have been praising the community spirit of those who helped others during the fire at Priory Tech Park.

8 Fire crews continue to put out and dampen down the blaze in Hessle.

They've been tackling the fire since yesterday afternoon at Bridgewood Plastics.

it was declared a major incident.

John Wilding's a Hessle Town Councillor, and was walking his dog when the fire broke out:

"It was as if night had come early because smoke filled the sky and with the power cuts going on of course all the alarms start to ring and with the explosions that sounded like bombs dropping"

"people immediately stayed away from the area so the emergency services could get there and do their thing. Generally people have been very warm - people have been offering their houses to people who've been evacuated"

Andy Turner was part of the team providing shelter and refreshments to anyone who needed it last night - at All Saints Church in Hessle:

"Our family and friends and neighbours answered the plea for help and brought supplies within half an hours notice of the request going out. They were welcomed and put to good use"

"it's one of the larger factories in the area supporting local families in the area. Long term it's going to have a massive impact on the community"

The Fiveways Pub offered free hot drinks and shelter to anyone affected - Keisha's the landlady:

"It's a scary thing a bit of a shock. Hearing the explosions and seeing the flames and thick smoke sent lots of worry among the community. We want to work with others to provide local people who are suffering shelter and warmth"
