Humberside Police say those responsible for tearing down an LGBT flag outside Bridlington Police station will be caught and brought to justice.

They've launched an investigation after the incident yesterday.

A rainbow flag was cut down by vandals and a homophobic email was also sent round by a claiming that they were responsible for the act.

The flag had been put up by Humberside Police to show support for LGBT communities and the recent Hull Pride event.

Humberside Police Chief Inspector Michelle Garlick told Viking:

"I am shocked and horrified by these actions. It is absolutely abhorrent that in 2018, we still have people in our communities with these bigoted, discriminatory attitudes that are free to put out there in the public domain.

"We will not tolerate this kind of behaviour at all. We are really upset by what's happened and I can imagine the community in Bridlington is too but I want to remind people that the vast majority of our communities are like us, they are inclusive and this is just the views of a minority of people who we will find and deal with.

"An investigation is underway and we have lots of tactics available to trace these people responsible; we are doing everything we can and we will find them and bring them to justice."
