Hull MP’s say people need to look at other services like pharmacies and minor injury units to free up the pressures on GP’s.

It comes as one in five people nationwide decide not to contact their GP surgery with worries over getting an appointment and long waits, according to official data.

There are currently calls for more GPs in the Hull area.

I looked at one GPs appointments and it was just shocking

We spoke to both Hull West and Hessle MP Emma Hardy and Hull North MP Diana Johnson about the issue.

Emma told us: "We need to look at it all and where we can reduce the demand to have to go through the GP to start with - to free up more spaces for people who really need to speak to their GP."

"The GPs are working really hard and when I had a look at one GP's appointments that day it was just shocking."

"They're just working back to back and in this area we're losing GPs."

Some are ending up in A and E

Diana Johnson told us: "When you look at the problems with A and E and you look at people turning up there who should be really going to a GP if they could get access and that increases that whole problem with the health service."

"There is a workforce shortage, they've got huge demand and I think there's still a lot of stuff from Covid with pent up demand - when people didn't seek help and advice when we were going through the pandemic."

People are having to speak to GPs now and some have ended up in A and E.
