A Hull man's been jailed for 9 years after making threats whilst brandishing a knife in Grimsby.

31 year old Dean Kelly of Perth Street in Hull admitted charges including attempted robbery and possession of an offensive weapon at Grimsby Crown Court.

He approached a man on Haycroft Street on January the 5th and pulled out the knife demanding he hand over valuables.

Kelly also attempted to take his bag by using the knife to cut off the strap

Kelly then fled after a member of the public intervened.

Officer in the case, Detective Constable Scott Jackson said:

“This was a violent attack on an innocent member of the public who was threatened and robbed as they made their journey home from work.

“I hope the result at court provides the victim and members of the public with some reassurance that Kelly can no longer cause fear or harm within our communities and feel that a sense of justice has been achieved.

“Violent crime and robbery will not be tolerated, and we will do everything we can to seek justice for victims to ensure our residents feel safe and criminals are punished.”
