The 2023 edition of the Hull fair comes to a close at 11pm this evening (Saturday 14 October) after eight days in which an estimated half a million people enjoyed the hundreds of rides and stalls on offer in the city.

Hull City Council Events Manager Helen Thackeray said: "Everybody that has attended the event seems really happy. Another year out of Covid and everything, everybody's just happy to be out at events, joining in the fun, being part of what is an internationally renowned event. It's a lovely week with everybody down here.

"We find it's good for people's mental health - people come back night and night again to come and just be part of a big crowd. You can stand anywhere and talk to someone next to you and be part of something really special."

As well as entertaining people from all over, the fair provides a huge boost to the business that come to soak up the atmosphere and some of the passing trade in such a popular event.

Helen said it's not just the stalls at the fair which benefit, but also the wider local economy as the fair attracts tourists who stay in local hotels, shop in local retailers and dine in local restaurants.
