In super league it's Rovers fans who are smiling today after they beat rivals FC in the big Hull derby last night.

The Robins took the spoils winning 22 nil in the season opener at FC.

Fans packed into the MKM stadium with expectations high for the new campaign amongst both sets of supporters.

But it didn't go the way FC were hoping.

Franklin Pele and Ligi Sao were both sent off.

KR new boy Niall Evalds secured two tries.

Our defence was good but there's still work to do in attack

Smith's men might have feared it was not going to be their night when Liam Sutcliffe withdrew after the warm-up due to illness, then Joe Cator was also forced to limp off early.

Hull KR head coach Willie Peters said:

"Our defence was very good but there's some work to do in attack.

"To be honest we probably should have put more points on the board but round one you want to be good at your defence and I thought we were good tonight."

Mikey Lewis was also on the scoresheet for KR.

We made it hard on ourselves and let the emotions get carried away

He said: "To come here and not let them score again - it's an unreal feeling for us.

"It's them being cheeky - young lads but it's a laugh at the end of the day."

Tony Smith is head coach at FC.

He was concerned about discipline after 2 red cards.

He told us: "We made it hard on ourselves and let the emotions get carried away and you can't do that you have to be able to take care of your emotions and fight hard in the right manner and we didn't at times."

"12 men for most of that second half - I thought the players had a real dig and tried really hard."

"It wasn't to be."
