Businesses in Hull are making some progress in their efforts to reduce carbon emissions conference.

Members of the Oh Yes! Net Zero program have been giving insights into the valuable lessons learnt over the past year.

They met at a conference in Hull yesterday.

It's also thought the cost of living crisis has helped reduce carbon emissions in East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire because people have been using the likes of heating less.

People should sign up to do as much as they can

We spoke to leader of Hull City Council Mike Ross about the issue.

He told us: "It's great in terms of the environment but also what it means for them is that they save money."

"Regardless of what your motivation might be the fact that you might save that money has got to be a plus."

"Change can be as small as just turning off the light."

"Making those sort of changes plus making a bigger investment in terms of solar or air source heat pumps, different ways of energy conservation."

We've seen wildfires in the region for the first time in a long time

"The main thing is people sign up to do as much as they can."

Bruce Charlesworth is the chief medical officer at Household cleaning company Reckitt - he says there are many reasons why people should get involved to do their bit:

"In this region because we live right on the edge of an estuary, right at the edge of the sea we've seen hot summers."

"We've seen for the first time in a long time fires in our region."

"Those things I think we need to remember."
