Hull's promotion push suffered a major setback as they blew a two-goal lead at Doncaster in a game which saw George Honeyman leave the field on a stretcher.

The second-placed Tigers looked to be soaring to a second straight win as they led 3-1 at the break through a brace of Mallik Wilks headers and a first club goal for Jacob Greaves, with Reece James replying for Rovers.

But Omar Bogle's 68th-minute penalty gave the hosts hope and after a delay for Honeyman to be carried off on the stroke of full-time, James Coppinger fired home a direct free-kick to snatch a 3-3 draw.

George Honeyman was stretchered off with his head in a neck brace in the closing stages but McCann said it was too early to know the severity of the injury.

Hull's George Honeyman

Boss Grant McCann said:

"It didn’t look good for George. I don’t think (Jason) Lokilo is that kind of player but his arms are raised, it’s into George’s neck. George is in a neck brace and going to be assessed at the hospital.

“The physios and the doctor couldn’t take any risks with him. He was in very strong pain in and around his neck area. We’re hoping and wishing George the best of luck and hoping it’s nothing serious.”

Honeyman’s midfield partner Greg Docherty was also withdrawn early in the second half through injury, with McCann commenting:

“It is a bit of a groin problem for Doc. We’re hoping it’s not too bad and doesn’t take him out for too long. We’ll assess him over the next 48 hours.”

The result saw Grant McCann's men slide out of the top two, with two goals from Sammie Szmodics and a late effort from Jonson Clarke-Harris helping Peterborough overhaul them with a 3-0 win over AFC Wimbledon at London Road.

It also enabled Lincoln to extend their lead at the top, though they had to come from behind to beat struggling Wigan 2-1 at the DW Stadium.

In League Two, Scunthorpe United secured a fourth successive win after beating Harrogate Town 3-1.

Grimsby Town's match against Exeter City was called off due to a waterlogged pitch and a new date for the fixture will be announced in due course.
