Hull City will be playing Championship football again next season after securing promotion with a 2-1 win at Lincoln City.

Josh Magennis and Mallik Wilks scored the goals to secure the three points that mean they can’t be caught inside the automatic promotion places.

Speaking to the club after the game, boss Grant McCann said:

“I’m over the moon for everybody at the football club, particularly the owners for their backing of me last summer which I thank them for, and also the staff and players because everybody has been outstanding and it has been a real team effort.

“The players have taken hit after hit and criticism after criticism whenever they’ve lost a game but they’ve always responded. It’s been a tough season, particularly without the fans, and it’s a real shame that they couldn’t be here today to witness the moment. Hopefully we can all come together soon and have a proper party.

“In terms of today we were just pleased to get over the line. I made a real point to the players before the game about concentrating on our performance but I knew deep down that it was all about the result in the end. We’ve got that result and I couldn’t be any more proud.

“Of course it got a bit nervy at times but that was always going to be the case. Lincoln are a good team and are where they are in the table for a reason, so it was always going to be a tough game. We stuck at it and defended manfully, and then Tom Eaves has come on and made a nuisance of himself to win the penalty and Mallik has stuck it away.

“It’s been a long slog but we’re not there yet. I’m not going to sugar-coat it – I’d love us to win the title and so would the players so that is our focus in the next two games.”

Fans, ex players and politicians are among those sending their congratulations to The Tigers:

Hull City are back in action on Saturday afternoon against Wigan Athletic at the KCOM Stadium.
