Consultants across the country are going on strike today over pay.

The British Medical Association's 48-hour walkout is their second round of industrial action in just over a month, with more strikes planned for September.

They're unhappy about the current pay offer.

However Health Secretary Steve Barclay says a 6% pay rise will be the final offer, and has urged the BMA to stop the strike action.

We spoke to Simon Nearney Director of Workforce for Hull, Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Trusts about the impact on the region's hospitals.

He told us: " Our medical staff - just like in any other industry - have the right to strike."

"We have to maintain services as best as possible and we're trying to do that balancing act."

"We already have a number of staff off on annual leave so what we've had to do is look carefully at what services we can provide so we've had to cancel a lot more activity than normal."

"There will be long waits to be seen in our A and E departments across the Humberside region, people need to keep that in mind."

"If you need treatment then our A and E will be open and you will be treated."

"However you may need to think of alternatives so pharmacies, GPs etc."

"We have had to stand down some appointments and some procedures which is unfortunate and we're really really sorry for that."

"What we've had to do is protect our emergency pathway."
