A direct Cleethorpes to London rail link expected in Summer 2024, and should boost the local economy, according to Cleethorpes MP Martin Vickers.

At the moment, passengers travelling down to the capital have to change at Doncaster for the 3-3.5 hour journey.

Martin Vickers said:

"It's absolutely vital to attracting future investors to the area. Transport connections is something that's always a serious consideration amongst investors so the sooner we get this up and running the better.

"Immingham is the largest port in the country, it's served by Habrough station just a couple of miles down the road so there's a real boost to the whole industrial area of the Humber bank."

The direct link between London and Cleethorpes has not been available since 1992 when the route was withdrawn.

Martin Vickers said: "It's now waiting for the final approval from the secretary of state - the indications are that very soon we will have his approval but I'll keep knocking at his door until we get the final yes."

Bringing more people up from the South is hoped to boost tourism as well as local industry, provided the route is ready in time to bring people to Cleethorpes's beaches.
