A new youth Centre has launched in Grimsby as local politicians and police aim to reduce antisocial behaviour and give young people a safe, warm space this winter.

The Young & Safe Haven on Osbourne Street in the town centre will feature table football, a pool table, video games, and youth workers on hand to give advice.

It comes as work on a separate youth centre started in October.

Children and young people can really come together and engage

The Horizon Youth Zone in Grimsby will feature a gym, climbing wall and music studio, and is due to open in 2025.

We spoke to Chief Superintendent Darren Wildbore about the project.

He told us: " Having a place which is not only safe but also warm. friendly and open to the local community will be a fantastic facility."

"When we engage with young kids it's usually on the streets or in other areas so to actually have a community hub where they all can come together and be safe - because there's some great sporting facilities here - they can really come and engage."

We can build up relationships

We also spoke to Inspector Claire Jacobs who told us:

"The police will be here so that will become the normal."

"We'll break down those barriers - we are part of the community but it's about bringing ourselves together."

"This haven will provide a safe space for the children so when we talk about anti social behaviour it's giving them a place to go."

"They can engage with organisations, engage with each other and build those relationships."
