A debt advisor in North East Lincolnshire says more people are suffering with mental health problems due to getting into financial difficulty.

As part of our #life on the breadline special – we’ve been looking at how living on little money is taking its toll on people’s health.

Lorraine Powell is from Centre 4 in Grimsby, it's a hub based in Nunsthorpe that's said to be one of the most deprived areas in the county. Lorraine said:

“It’s getting really bad, mental health – I’m seeing an increase daily. I’ve got clients coming to me that they’ve revealed that they didn’t know where else to turn and they’ve had suicidal thoughts.

“I can say from this last two months, my work load has increased at least by 10% due to the increase in bills so come April, it’s going to be horrendous for some people and they’re struggling at it is.

“I spoke to a client who I’m helping with her finances and she’s still in bed. She’s never been able to afford to put heating in her property so she’s relied on storage heaters. Through various charities, we’re getting the help and grants to get help out there.”

Rishi Sunak will be announcing the government's spring statement tomorrow.
