Government confirms talks are still ongoing about possible support for British Steel
Discussions have been taking place for months
The Government say talks ARE still ongoing about possible support for British Steel in Scunthorpe despite concerns there's been no agreement after months of discussions.
There were reports 300 million pounds could be made available to prepare for the future but nothing's been heard recently.
Martin Foster is from the Unite Union in the town.
He spoke to us and said: "People have been aware we've been fighting this battle for what seems like forever - certainly since 2008 - since the credit crash - we still haven't come out of that recession yet in the steel industry, we're still struggling."
"We're pretty tired now of one politician after another promising this and that and the other and then not delivering"
"It's possible we may not see the 2035 deadline for decarbonisation if we don't get some decent support from the Government."
"If we don't get something in place soon , then it has to be a longer term strategy which will secure the future in the medium to long term."
"Without that strategy I fear the worst - that the steel industry will disappear and I don't feel it's far away."
"There's nobody that works here doesn't want a green industry but the sums of money involved in doing that and the planning and execution is such a huge mountain to climb any company would need Government support to help them do that."
The Government said it is committed to the steel industry in Scunthorpe.
