Police are investigating a serious incident where a young girl was pushed into freezing water in a pond in Hull.
It happened around 3.30pm last Friday (9th December) at East Park.
The girl and her sister were walking by a a partially frozen pond when a boy reportedly pushed her into the water.
She was able to get out with the help of her sister and others and was taken to hospital as a precaution but was not injured.
The officer investigating this case is East Hull Community Beat Manager PC Murphy, he said, “This was an extremely dangerous and reckless act on the part of others, and I would appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident or has mobile phone footage that would help us to find those responsible to contact me via our non-emergency number 101 quoting reference 22000107992.
Speaking about the dangers of frozen water is Humberside Police Head of Special Operations Unit Superintendent Lee Edwards, he said, “With the recent tragic events where children have lost their lives in a frozen lake in Solihull I want to offer my sincere condolences to those parents who have lost their children in such tragic circumstances.
“I would also like to appeal to parents, guardians and children themselves, to please stay away from open water, especially frozen water.
“I share the advice of Humberside Fire and Rescue to stay away from frozen water. *‘Bodies of water which freeze when the temperature hits zero and below may look like fun places to play, but can become potential death traps for those who venture onto the ice.
‘Lakes, ponds and certain stretches of rivers may look as if they will support the weight of people or animals, but sadly that is not always the case. The added hazards are the slippery banks and the ice-cold temperature of the water should an incident occur.’
“They have a full page of advice around this on their website and I would urge people to read this and take their concerns seriously.
“Thankfully the young girl on Friday evening was not seriously harmed, but it could so easily have been a very different story. I hope this young girl recovers from her ordeal quickly and that the young people involved in her ending up in the water understand the seriousness of the incident and come forward and speak to our officers.”
