A 15 year old girl is in a critical but stable condition in hospital after she fell over a cliff edge near Filey in North Yorkshire.

Her dad contacted the Coastguard, who saw her accidentally go over the edge just North of Chimney Hole, near the seaside town.

Fortunately, rescue teams were training nearby, and were able to get to the scene within 10 minutes - she suffered head injuries in the fall and was airlifted to hospital in Hull.

A statement from North Yorkshire Police said:

“This is a brief update following on from last night’s Coastguard message relating to a 15-year-old girl who had fallen from cliffs near the Blue Dolphin holiday park near Filey.”

The girl was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary with head injuries where she remains in a critical but stable condition.”

The Coastguard's now issued this warning anyone out on the coast this Easter break:

“Make sure that you are properly equipped for walking along coastal paths. In particular remember to wear sturdy shoes or boots and check the weather forecast before you set out. Do not attempt to climb up or down cliffs unless you are properly equipped and trained to do so. Do not attempt to climb cliffs as a short cut back to the top. Do not attempt self-rescue.”

If you get into difficulty, call 999 and ask for the coastguard. Carry a mobile phone, tell people where you are going and when you expect to return.”
