Students across East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire got their A level results yesterday.

Many were delighted and will now go onto University.

However others fell short of the grades they wanted and are either going through clearing to find somewhere else or will look at other options.

We've been speaking to a number of former students from the University of Hull who didn't get the results but still went onto to major success.

Kate French helped take calls at the University of Hull's clearing centre yesterday - it wasn't all smooth sailing for her, but she went on to win gold in the Modern Heptathlon at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic games.

Kate French says I didn't quite get the results she was hoping for

She told us: "I had a few tricky years.

I did a foundation year and then did a top up year to do the full degree but I didn't quite get the grades to do the top up year so had to resit."

Edward Cole is a PHD student who's had work featured in the Washington post - he went through clearing at the University of Hull:

Edward Cole says there was a lot of stress but it all worked out

He told us "I didn't get any offers at all from any Universities and all the lads around me were getting offers from different universities and I was steadily getting more rejections throughout the year.

"To go all the way from having no offers and lots of stress to now be invited to do a PHD I think I'm in the right place."

But he found a place eventually.

"There was a lot of stress lifted off me, there after that I graduated with a degree in sport rehabilitation."

"I then went on to do a masters in clinical exercise physiology."

Everything happens for a reason

Rugby player Sam Cross also had difficulties but eventually went on to a career representing Team GB.

He said: "Cardiff introduced me to rugby sevens, four or five years on I won a medal for rugby sevens and played for Wales."

"Things might seem tough but you'll come through it and I'm sure in a couple of years time you'll think what was I so worried about that day, why did I get so stressed out."

"Everything happens for a reason."
