There are fears many people in Hull won't be able to vote in next weeks local elections because they don't have a passport or driving licence.

Anyone in that position is being invited to apply for free ID.

You have until 5pm tonight.

The elections will be the first time where everyone will need to show photographic proof of identity to be able to vote.

We spoke to Ian Anderson from Hull City council about the issue.

In Hull driving licences and passports are lower in general

"You need to have a digital photograph and you need to have your national insurance number."

"If you can authenticate who you are, obviously you've got to also be registered to vote, then you can apply."

"In Hull the difficulty is driving licences and passports are lower in general."

"You need some form of identification and if you don't have any of those things then this year we have for the first time, to enable people to apply for a voter authority certificate."

Taking up the opportunity to vote is crucial

"Local Government has the most close connections to people's lives influencing who represents you in the city ensures your priorities are a focus for the local authority."

"So taking up the opportunity to have your say is crucial."

"If you go to the council's customers services at Wilson centre you have tablets there to help you get the photograph taken."

"Central library likewise."

"There are other libraries that have the ability to take your photo digitally to help you upload that."

"It's really important that you don't lose the right to vote,"
