There’s a stark warning from emergency services in Hornsea this morning over the dangers of being swept out to sea.

With the weather set to turn warmer they're advising us not to take inflatables to the beach.

People are also being advised not to go too far out into the water.

Andrew Garvey is from the National Coastwatch Institution in Hornsea.

Inflatables are not made for the sea

We spoke to him about the dangers.

He told us: "They'll be families out, kids and there we have to keep an eye on them because the children like to play with inflatables but they're not made for the sea."

"One person will keep a permanent view on the vessel or person if they've been washed out to sea for example ."

"We dial 999 and report it to the coastguard."

"The problem is as well - the wind."

"If the wind's coming from the north east, south east or east it tends to blow you back onto shore."

Fishing vessels don't know whether inflatables left the beach with someone on it

"If it's coming off the land from the north west, the west or south west it pushes you out."

He told us about the dangers of rubber rings.

"The problem is a fishing vessel going off the coast three miles out comes across it and see it."

"He doesn't know whether it's left the beach empty or full so we have to make a report to coastguard there's a ring out there unattended."
