People have less than two weeks left to comment on the masterplan that will shape development in the East Riding until the end of the next decade.

East Riding Council’s consultation on the final draft of its Local Plan is set to close just before midnight on Monday, December 5.

Council Planning Portfolio Holder Cllr Claire Holmes said the authority wanted to hear what people have to say on the draft which includes housing allocations for local places.

The final consultation on the draft Local Plan comes ahead of the submission of the final version of the document early next year.

A Government inspector is then due to examine it to make sure it is acceptable and complies with planning policies before being adopted in 2024.

The new Local Plan replaces the council’s current one which was adopted in 2016.

Local Plans shape development in areas and the one the East Riding is drafting now will run until 2039 once it is adopted.

They are often referred to in council planning meetings when committees decide whether to approve an application for an area.

Some places in the East Riding would see hundreds and even thousands of new homes built in the coming years under their draft housing allocations.

Previous consultations on the draft Local Plan have seen the number of homes allocated to Howden cut from 2,200 to 1,800.

The re-drafted Local Plan also pledged to build a new relief road before housing development goes ahead after local objections.

Other changes included reducing housing capacity on three sites, including one in Cottingham, while another in Brough had its increased.

The 29,000 overall number of homes allocated for the East Riding during the Local Plan’s lifetime remains unchanged.

Cllr Holmes said the authority really wanted locals to get involved in the final consultation.

The portfolio holder said: “The Local Plan is a really important document for shaping communities for the future.”
