Dog rescue centre in North Lincolnshire facing multiple pressures this winter
There are concerns demand will continue to rise
There are concerns the number of pressures facing a dog rescue centre in North Lincolnshire will continue to rise this winter.
The XL Bully ban, and the cost of living crisis leaving some unable to care for their animals are believed to be among the reasons behind increased demand at Jerry Green Dog Rescue in Brigg.
Emma is the Centre Manager for the facility in North Lincolnshire. They also have sites in the south of the Lincolnshire and in Nottinghamshire.
Emma tells us it's a concern:
"The rescues want to help but they are having to manage in a situation with a high volume of enquiries, and limited resources, limited staff and with limited kennel space and sadly the demand for our service isn't decreasing at this time.
"We are coming up to what would normal seasonal block but it is compounded at the moment.
"Many people aren't looking to get a dog just before Christmas they have other financial priorities - and at this point in time the wellbeing of people is quite a concern."
She says they are facing high demand in the run up to the festive period:
"We are dealing with an increased number of people needing our services and right now there is just not the capacity in rescue to be able to help everyone instantly."
