Muslims urged to continue having Covid jabs during Ramadan
The holy month will start on Monday (12 April)
Muslims in East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire are being urged to continue having coronavirus vaccines during Ramadan.
From Monday (12 April), many will be marking the holy month by fasting from dawn until sunset.
There are concerns some might think a Covid-19 vaccine would invalidate the fast, but health experts say that's not the case.
According to the British Islamic Medical Association, Islamic Scholars say that's not the case.
Imam Sayful Ahmed, from the Scunthorpe Mosque and Islamic Centre, says: "Generally, taking injections while fasting is permissable, as long as that injection hasn't reached the stomach directly.
"What breaks your fast is something that enters your stomach directly, but having said that, Islam isn't a one-track strict religion.
"If a person must take the vaccine, or if a person is unwell generally and must take some medication, then he is actually exempt from fasting completely, let alone whether they should take it during fasting or during the month of Ramadan."
