Concerns over young carers across East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire
It's thought their responsibilities cold be impacted their own lives
It's feared many young carers across East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire are struggling to cope because they have no proper support.
Today the first ever parliamentary inquiry takes place on how looking after an ill or vulnerable family member can impact a young person's life.
They're being urged to reach out for support with fears some find it difficult to carry out caring responsibilities and live their own lives.
We spoke to Carl Adams who's a care coordinator at Harkins Care in Hull.
Sometimes support can be quite hidden
He told us:
"As an adult they could be trying to run their own home with their own children whilst still trying to look after a mum or a grand parent."
"It's always good to have a Q and A with someone that knows what's available for you because sometimes support can be quite hidden."
"It's always better to get in touch with the likes of your local council to see if there's anyone who can offer you a bit of guidance."
They might not know they're actually providing care
"There could be some people out there who caring for mum or dad but don't know they're actually providing care."
"They just think well it's dad so of course I'm going to go and make sure they're all right and will make him his tea."
"Something I hope is that my kids in the future would be proud to say that their dad did, so I started looking around, found something I'd applied for and was lucky enough to be offered a position."
"It was quite good you get the training you need to feel comfortable to do the job as a carer."
