A free water safety session for children in Bridlington is set to return this Summer.

Swim Safe takes place on the South Beach and educates children what to do around the sea on the beach.

Donna Loveland is Chair of the Andrew McGeown Legacy Fund - which runs the programme.

She told us: "A lot of children will have learnt to swim in a swimming pool and have never been in open water or the sea before."

"Obviously it's a lot colder and the environment's a lot different to when they're swimming in a swimming pool."

"We advise they always stay with an adult."

"One of the things we teach is that if you're going to enter the sea we always suggest you stay close to that adult."

Donna says the reason she does 'Swim Safe' is because her brother lost his life:

"People do what he did every day and don't really think about it and he probably didn't."

"He went into rescue his dog and probably just didn't think because it was his beloved dog."

"It's teaching children if they did see somebody in danger or got into danger themselves how to stay alive and what to do."
