Jock's Lodge junction will be removed and replaced with a new roundabout on the A1079 Hull to York road, and three new roads connecting it with the A164.

It's as part of an £87 million pound plan.

The Department of Transport has put £40m into the project, with the council making up the remaining £47m.

Work is due to begin next spring, and run through to the back end of 2026.

The Transport minister Richard Holden gave the green light for the improvement plans during a visit to the East Riding today.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is preparing to transform the road system that links the A164, one of the county’s busiest roads, with the A1079, to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion.

Mr Holden said:

“Over £40 million of Government funding will be going to transform the Jock’s Lodge junction as part of our partnership with the local council. This will ease congestion, improve safety and grow the local economy.

“It was fantastic to be hosted by East Riding of Yorkshire Council today and hear first-hand why the funding this Government is providing will help improve one of the area’s busiest roads.

“Supporting road schemes like the one here at Jock’s Lodge is one of the many long-term decisions this Government is taking to keep this country moving, deliver on our Network North plan and back drivers.”

Councillor Anne Handley, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said:

“We couldn’t be happier that the Government has approved this long-awaited scheme and we can now begin to make it a reality.

“This is a huge project, and when it’s finished, drivers will see a vast improvement on their journeys and spend a lot less time sitting in traffic.”

The scheme will involve the removal of the existing Jock’s Lodge junction, and the construction of:

A new roundabout along the A1079 Hull-to-York road, and a new road connecting it with the Lincoln Way/Minster Way roundabout in Beverley.

Two new roads, travelling northbound and southbound, which will connect the new A1079 roundabout with the A164 further south, near Coppleflat Lane, Bentley.

The A164 will also be widened into a dual carriageway between Coppleflat Lane and the roundabout with the B1233 Harland Way, Cottingham.

North of Coppleflat Lane, the A164 will remain a single carriageway but with A1079-bound traffic diverted on to separate new link roads.

In preparation for the Jock’s Lodge upgrade, the council is currently building a new roundabout at the junction of Main Street and Beverley Road, Skidby, as well as creating a new bus stop. This work is due to be completed in mid-November.
