50% of people in this region think the radio is the most comforting sound

They prefer it to rain on the window.

Recent research by global hearing health specialist, Amplifon, has revealed the psychological effect that sounds have on us.

They found that half of those in this region thought the radio was the most comforting thing to listen to, compared to rain on a window, the TV or a violin.

Many people surveyed thought listening to the radio made them feel safer at home than when they can hear their neighbours.

The research also found that 1 in 4 Brits leave the radio on for when their pets while they are out!

Amplifon also did research into what accents people found attractive and here the Southern Irish accent was most popular, with Geordie coming second and Scottish coming a close third.

Results from Yorkshire The most to least attractive accents by region: 1. Southern Ireland – 43% 2. Geordie – 32% 3. Scottish – 31% 4. Welsh – 29% 5. Yorkshire – 29% 6. Northern Ireland – 23% 7. West Country – 20% 8. Southern England – 18% 9. Scouse – 15% 10. Mancunian – 13%

When it came to celebrities David Attenborough topped the list of the most comforting person to listen to with a massive 63%.

Grammy award winning singer Adele only came in with 26% of those surveyed saying she was comforting to listen to and former contestant on The X Factor Stacey Solomon got 10%.
