Coronation Street announce casting for Sophie Webster's cougar girlfriend

Coronation Street fans have been desperate to know more about Sophie Webster's upcoming romance since it was first announced earlier this month. According to a TV source, Sophie is set to find romance with an older woman - but her mum Sally is not best pleased about it.
It turns out that the older woman in question is actually an old lawyer friend of Sally's, who she has invited to Weatherfield to help her out of a sticky fraud situation.
After silly Sally accidentally hands over council funds to a criminal, her position as Mayor of Weatherfield is in jeopardy so she calls this friend in to help her out - but the friend has her head turned by young Sophie, who hasn't exactly been the luckiest in love recently.

Show bosses have now revealed that former Doctors actress Stirling Gallacher will take on the role of the as yet unnamed friend - although there's no word on when she'll be starting her new role.
Doctors fans will recognise Stirling from playing Dr. Georgina Woodson for six years between 2003 and 2009 for which she won the British Soap Award for Best On-Screen Partnership with her co-star Seán Gleeson who played her husband Ronnie. She later went on to marry him in real life.
Stirling also had a small role in EastEnders as the Mayor of Walford, and Little Britain fans may remember her as the Prime Minister's wife and Margaret - as will Holby City fans, who may know her as Kate Moyles.
