Work on the long-awaited Green Port Hull development starts today.

The £310m project between Siemens and ABP will see a huge wind turbine factory being built at Alexandra Dock.

The site will produce and export up to 600 wind turbine blades every year and is set to create at least a 1000 new jobs.

It'll also help put the Humber at the forefront for green energy and further develop our region as the UK's Energy Estuary.

To mark the start of today's construction work - the Energy Secretary, Ed Davey, will join representatives from Siemens and leaders from the European renewables industry on a special visit to the city this afternoon.

Speaking to Viking FM when the deal was announced last March, Matthew Chinn, Managing Director of Siemens Energy UK & Ireland said:

“Siemens is a leader in offshore wind and the investment demonstrates our ongoing commitment to UK manufacturing and confidence in the industry. The development of local manufacturing will provide a huge boost to the UK renewables industry and will help unlock other major projects and investments.”
