With many expected to flock to the East Yorkshire coast this Easter Bank Holiday weekend - we're being warned to take extra care when going on cliff tops.

The region has some of the fastest eroding coastlines in Europe - with over two metres of cliff edge being lost to the sea each year.

There's been a number of incidents in which people have got into difficulty by going too close to cliff edges recently.

Jennifer Kippax is from the council and is reminding people about how to keep safe when visiting the area.

She told Viking FM:

"The cliffs are extremely unstable, particuarly away from the defended towns of Bridlington, Hornsea and Withernsea so we are asking people to take a bit of extra care and not to take any risks by trying to climb down cliffs or picnicing on the edge of cliffs which could collapse at any moment.

"We do have the odd occasion where people are caught out by the tides and coast guard rescue teams have had to become involved and occassionally we have had people affected by cliff losses when they've been enjoying a picnic at the foot of the cliff so we are asking people to bear that in mind.

"We get a lot of people from outside the area coming to the main towns, so we want those people in particular to be aware as they may not be as familiar with the erosion risks as some of the local residents. We have got plenty of sections of coast that are perhaps less riskier than others."
