Plans For Glass Elevator At Humber Bridge
The lift would take tourists to the top of the North Tower.
A glass elevator could soon take people to the top of the Humber Bridge.
It would take toursists to the top of the North Tower and is part of plans for a major new visitor attraction at the bridge.
The proposals were today outlined tby The Humber Bridge Board and a full planning application is due to be submitted in the springtime, with work scheduled to start later in the year if the plans are given the go-ahead by East Riding Council.
Work includes the construction of a glass elevator and viewing platform designed to take tourists to the top of the North Tower, enabling them to see the spectacular views across East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.
Also included in the planning notice are proposals for a new visitor centre and a new hotel, both to be built on part of the Humber Bridge Viewing Area car parks, off Ferriby Road.
Councillor Chaytor added that the hotel would act as a base for people to explore Hull, East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire, therefore meaning tourists would stay longer in the region. He said:
“The hotel will be perfectly located to easily access all parts of the Humber region,” he said.
“That, combined with the new glass lift and all the other fantastic tourist attractions across the region, mean people will have another reason to visit the area, another reason to stay longer and spend more money, which is great for the local economy.”
