Mum Campaigns For Free Heart Screenings On NHS

Published 6th Aug 2015

A mum whose teenage son died suddenly has told us she's campaigning to get heart screenings on the NHS for all young people in Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire.

Elaine Ward will never know exactly what caused her seventeen year old son Neil's heart to stop.

She's helped fund screening events at sports grounds around the region.

Cardiac Risk in the Young works to reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD) and supports young people diagnosed with potentially life-threatening cardiac conditions. The charity offers bereavement support to families affected by YSCD, promotes and develops heart screening programmes and funds medical research.

Anyone interested needs to book as soon as possible. People between 14 and 35 can book a free heart test by visiting testmyheart.org.uk or by calling CRY on 0203 691 0000.
