A man's been sentenced for the manslaughter of Grimsby man Shane Bower.

Mr Bower died after sustaining serious injuries as the result of a single punch in Bethlehem Street, Grimsby in the early hours of Tuesday 17 February.

Charles Westwood (48) of Princes Road, Cleethorpes pleaded guilty at Hull Crown Court in February to the charge of the manslaughter of Shane Bower (38) and has today been handed a four year prison sentence.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Gadd said: “The sentence given to Charles Westwood should act as a deterrent to others. There is no doubt that alcohol was an aggravating factor in this incident, fuelling a violent outburst with tragic consequences, destroying the lives of those involved and their families.

"Humberside Police are committed to tackling violent crime and will continue our efforts to reduce the numbers of victims. However we also need people to play their part by thinking about their actions before they get involved in a dispute which can turn to violence.”
