Long delays on A18 at Barnetby Top

Drivers have been stuck in big queues as work to construct a new roundabout continues.

Drivers have been facing long delays on the A18 at Barnetby Top as work continues to install a new £1.3m roundabout.

Three-way temporary traffic lights have been installed there while the work takes place.

It means motorists have been stuck in big queues and police have been advising people to avoid the area if possible.

There are also diversions around Barnetby.

Resident Catherine Moody says it's been chaos. She told Viking:

"Just getting out in a morning or any time of the day has been a nightmare. It hasn't been good at all and we haven't really been given any feedback from anybody.

"My husband and daughter going to work in a morning have had to set off extra early and have been stuck in traffic for around half an hour when normally it takes a few minutes to get out of the village, you just go straight over the hill and you are on the motorway.

"We are pretty angry."

North Lincolnshire Council say they're working around the clock to speed up the process and say work is ahead of schedule. They told us the scheme will improve access and safety in the long-term.

Councillor Neil Poole told Viking:

“This is a major investment of £1.3m. The roundabout is needed to provide long-term access and safety improvements for residents and local commuters. It will also greatly improve traffic flow at this busy junction.”

“It’s great news that we are able to speed up the scheme and complete it much sooner than originally expected. This means that workmen will be working six days a week including Saturdays to get the job finished.

“I want to thank local residents for their patience and cooperation. Please bear with us; we are doing all we can to get the job done as soon as quickly as possible.”
