Hull has been named as the junk capital of the UK.

According to new research - half of households in the city have enough clutter to fill a small bedroom.

Homes in Hull are said to hoard around 8m of junk on average, which is the highest in the country.

But elsewhere in Yorkshire it's a different picture. Homes in Leeds are amongst the most clutter free and here households hoard just 4m worth of junk (about the size of a double bed).

While Sheffield homes also came in below the national average, with just 4.6m of junk per household.

Rob Linton from Clearabee, which carried out the research, said:

“78 per cent of people in Yorkshire and Humberside admit to wasting space in their homes on things they don’t use or need. A proportion of these are losing the space of an entire room to junk. We’ve become savvy at finding ways to store clutter around ourselves, but most of us could get better at getting rid of it."
