Hull Help for Calais Refugees are asking for donations to send to migrants in Calais.

A group from Hull are appealing for donations to help support thousands of refugees who are camped in Calais.

Hull Help for Calais Refugees are asking for supplies such as tents, sleeping bags and clothes to send to people who have had to leave their homes to escape war and poverty.

The group - made up of volunteers - is is in the process of organising to go out to Calais to deliver donations.

It's as the UK's under further pressure to take its "fair share" of migrants - this time from Germany.

Ministers there warn that David Cameron's plans to renegotiate the country's relationship with the EU could be under threat if the refusals continue.

Maud Morrish is from the Hull Help for Calais Refugees group. She says the support here has been overwhelming and told Viking FM:

"We originally thought it was going to be maybe one person with a van and get a couple of donations but we have had a lot of interest and it just shows a lot more people than you think actually care about it and want to help.

"Donations such as tents are really vital and even though things like women's clothes aren't desperately needed in Calais, they are needed in places like Greece and Hungary so I would urge people to donate what they can.

"We have got so many people backing this campaign across the North so I don't see why we can't go across to Calais more than once until it's not needed any more really but I'm not sure when that will be.

"Currently there aren't any big charities out there helping people and you think there would be. The only charities that are out there are small French charities and they're just inundated and a lot of them don't speak any of the languages.

"I'm organising a donation day for everyone wanting to donate to bring them in to us. I have got so many people saying they have things to donate and asking when they can bring it which is why we are now in the process of arranging drop off points."
