Family Rescued From Flooded Car In York

Firefighters have rescued a family from their flooded car in York.

The rescue took place in the Howden Lane area of the city at around 6 o'clock yesterday (29 December).

Firefighters used an inflatable rescue boat to get the two adults and two children to safety. They were trapped inside a car in floodwaters around a metre high.

All members of the family were unharmed and very glad to be safe.

Crews deployed in York have witnessed Streets turned into rivers of filthy flood water, thousands of properties and businesses affected and large areas cut off and isolated.

Emergency services from around the country are working tirelessly and have been playing a big role in supporting the Joint Emergency Service Response in York.

Dave Foulkes, Station Manager and currently Welfare Officer for firefighters crewing the rescue boat in the city said:

'What is becoming more and more apparent is the fantastic attitude of the many people affected. They demonstrate an amazing community spirit and willingness to help each other in this testing time.

"The appreciation being shown by the victims of this flood to the Emergency Responders is overwhelming.'
