Electrification of rail line between Hull and Selby not going ahead

The announcement has been made.

There's anger today following the government's decision to throw out plans to electrify the rail line between Hull and Selby.

They've turned down the scheme - despite private money from First Hull Trains already being made available for the project.

It would have meant faster journey times between Hull and other cities.

Lord Chris Haskins chairs the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership - he gave Viking his reaction:

"I wasn't really surprised because the cost has more than doubled since the idea was originally put around. We worked hard on it but frankly at the price it is at the moment there's better ways of spending money then that."
