Woman suffers potentially life-threatening injuries in A4042 crash

Gwent Police say a diversion is in place following the incident at just before midday today (August 7)

Gwent Police say the road is still closed on the A4042 near New Inn after a crash involving three cars.

They tell us they were called to the collision at around midday, with a 79 year old woman sent to hospital with potentially life threatening injuries.

The ambulance, police and fire service were called to the scene - and drivers are urged to follow the diversions.

In a response sent to us earlier this afternoon, Gwent Police said: "We received a report of a road traffic collision on the A4042, near New Inn at around 11.50am on Monday 7 August.

"Officers attended, along with personnel from the Welsh Ambulance Service and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

"The collision involved three cars: a Peugeot, a Ford and a Mercedes.

"The passenger of the Mercedes, a 79-year-old woman, was taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.

"The incident is ongoing."
