One member of the Cardiff Three, Tony Paris, has died aged 65.

Paris, alongside Stephen Miller and Yusef Abdullahi, was wrongly convicted of the murder of Lynette White in Cardiff Bay in 1988. The three were jailed in 1990 but cleared of all wrongdoing two years later.

John Actie and Ronnie Actie were also charged with the murder but later cleared.

Jeffrey Gafoor, the real murderer, was convicted in 2003.

Tony Paris’ daughter Cassie announced her father's death on Twitter saying “I can't believe I’m writing this. My dad Antony (Tony) Paris has sadly passed. Anyone who knows me knows my dad is everything to me. It was me and him against the world. I will continue to raise awareness and fight for those who face injustice in his name. I love you dada!”.

After the Cardiff Three were released from jail, South Wales police launched a wide-scale investigation into the actions of the officers involved in charging the men.

The inquiry lead to the UK’s biggest ever police corruption trial. Eight former South Wales Police detectives were found not guilty after the trial collapsed due to disclosure failings.

Many tributes have been made since the announcement of Paris’ death.

Economy Minister Vaughan Gething tweeted ‘Very sad to hear of Tony Paris’ death. He had a huge impact on Butetown and the Docks, and his fight for justice alongside the rest of the Cardiff 5, his family, and the community has helped shape life in Cardiff for the better. My thoughts are with his family today.’

Plaid MS Rhys ab Owen also tweeted after the news, saying ‘My thoughts are with Tony Paris’ family today. His fight for justice will always be remembered.
