Swansea MP Calls For Beauty Industry To Use Models With Facial Scarring
Carolyn Harris is championing the #PledgeToBeSeen campaign
Swansea East MP Carolyn Harris has called on the Leader of the House of Commons to champion the #PledgeToBeSeen campaign led by charity Changing Faces, which is the UK’s leading charity for everyone with a scar, mark or condition on their face or body that makes them look different.
Carolyn met representatives of the campaign in her role as co-Chair of the Beauty Aesthetics and Wellbeing APPG.
The #PledgeToBeSeen initiative calls for brands to represent more people with visible differences in their imagery and campaigns.
Carolyn Harris, MP for Swansea East, said:
"In my capacity as co-Chair of the Beauty Aesthetics and Wellbeing APPG, I’ve met some truly inspirational women who are being supported by incredible charity Changing Faces.
"These women - like one in five other people in the UK - have a scar, a birthmark or a skin condition that makes them visibly different. As a result of this they experience discrimination and exclusion in their everyday lives.
"I’m calling on the Government to join me in championing this campaign and ensuring that they embrace and reflect people with visible differences in their advertising campaigns".
