Tributes to man who died following serious assault in Cardiff

South Wales Police say a man seriously hurt in an assault in Cardiff has died in hospital.

Officers were called to Hansen Street at around 04.30am on Thursday September 14th where 40 year old Luke Higgins was found critically injured.

Police say he died days later in hospital.

His family has issued a statement paying tribute to him. It said: “We are devastated by the loss of Luke who was a father of four and one of nine siblings.

“Luke was a much-loved father, brother and uncle, and will be greatly missed.”

Before his death, 43 year old David Smith of Hansen Street was charged with causing grievous bodily harm.

The South Wales Police Major Investigation Team is now liaising with the Crown Prosecution Service.

Smith is remanded in custody and is next due to appear at Cardiff Crown Court on Monday, October 16.
