The King and Queen Consort will be in Wrexham today, marking his second visit to Wales.

Wrexham will welcome the King to celebrate becoming a city, after winning the prestigious status after winning a competition part of the late Her Majesty the Queens Platinum Jubilee celebrations. The honour was granted earlier this year.

Wrexam now joins as the seventh city in Wales, alongside Cardiff, Swansea, Newport, Bangor, St Davids and St Asaph.

Councillor Mark Pritchard, Leader of Wrexham Council, said:

We have so much to celebrate in Wrexham. We have an amazing World Heritage Site, and incredible football club with incredible owners, and a rich and diverse arts and culture scene. We have strong links with our armed forces, world-class businesses and friends all over the world.

I’d also like to thank Her Majesty the Queen for granting Wrexham city status. We’ve received congratulations from supporters and friends all over the world, and this is a truly historic day.

King Charles came to Cardiff only a few months ago where he held a private audience with the First Minister, Mark Drakeford, and the Llywydd of the Senedd, Elin Jones.

Some members of the public were granted entry into Cardiff Castle to see Their Majesties as they took part in their final engagement of the day. This was on a first come first serve basis.

After the service, His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort traveled to the Senedd in the afternoon to receive a Motion of Condolence from the First Minister.

Many members of the public gathered to see and welcome the Royal Party as they arrived in Llandaff, Cardiff Bay.
