Police forces across Wales are urging people to behave themselves as we prepare to celebrate Halloween.

Thousands of children are expected to be out on the streets but officers are urging people to show respect when trick or treating.

They're urging children to stay away from homes displaying "no callers" posters.

Halloween is a holiday celebrated across the globe, from pumpkin picking to trick or treating, adults and children alike get involved in the fun.

The four police forces say anti-social behaviour (ASB) and criminal damage will not be tolerated, and those committing crimes will be arrested.

Gwent Police Chief Superintendent Matthew Williams said: "We appreciate after a few years of the pandemic impacting the way we celebrate Halloween, you may be eager to make the most of what the season brings.

"As our officers carry out their patrols, we hope to see you enjoying your evenings in a safe manner.

"What we would ask is that you be responsible, stay safe and be considerate of your neighbours and those who may not enjoy or see the fun in Halloween and bonfire night.

"Please remain mindful of the fact that some of our neighbours – some of our friends and family, even those with pets – won’t see the fun in answering the door to strangers or hearing loud noises in their streets.

"While the vast majority of people will enjoy the night responsibly and look out for vulnerable neighbours, we’ll continue our work to address any problems such as crime and public safety.

"ASB and criminal damage will never be tolerated and we'll be working with South Wales Fire and Rescue Service over the period to ensure fireworks are being used responsibly.

"This time of year is one of the busiest for Gwent Police and emergency services, so we'd like to thank the public for their continued support."
