A number of flood warnings and alerts are still in place across South Wales, following heavy rain and a Met Office warning earlier in the weekend for rain which battered much of the region with bad weather.

Warnings - published by Natural Resources Wales - are regularly updated to reflect the current situation, but as of 7 o'clock this morning, three flood warnings were in place across our region, meaning locals must 'take action' to prevent loss of life or property damage.

On social media over the past few days, residents have been posting images of flooded fields and high water levels across South Wales thanks to the bad weather we've seen.

According to Natural Resources Wales, the River Usk reached peak levels of 2.9 metres yesterday.

As of this morning, over in the Brecon Beacons, levels were at '1.7 metres and steady', according to the flood organisation.

28 flood warnings have been removed by the flood authority over the past 24 hours, but across the whole of Wales, 20 remained in place as of 7AM this morning (January 8th).

A spokesperson from Natural Resources Wales said: "We gave some flood alerts in place for Wales and we urge people to take care.

"You can check if you live in an area at risk of flooding from rivers, the sea or from surface water with a simple postcode checker on our website.

"If you are travelling, you can check your route ahead of time for any disruptions on the Traveline Cymru and Traffic Wales websites."

What to do in each flood warning
