A man's appeared in court today charged with the murder of his mother at her home in Brecon.
John Anderson Griffiths, who's 57, was arrested over the death of his 87-year-old mother Joyce.
She was airlifted to hospital on Friday night from her home in the Brecon Beacons but she died the following day in hospital.
Her son appeared at Merthyr Tydfil Magistrates Court today charged with murder.
Griffiths, of Tregare Farm, Brecon, spoke only briefly to confirm his identity. He is set to appear at Merthyr Crown Court on Wednesday, August 31.
A spokesman for Dyfed Powys Police said: "John Anderson Griffiths was arrested at the scene and charged on Monday night.
"Officers were called to a property in the Llanfrynach area at around 9.25pm on Friday.
"Margaret Joyce Griffiths, aged 87, was airlifted to hospital but sadly died the following day.
"Next of kin and the family continues to be supported by specialist officers."
Mrs Griffths was described as an "active member" of her community in the picturesque village of Llanfynach in the Brecon Beacons.
In a tribute, her family said: "Margaret Joyce Griffiths was a much-loved mother, granny, sister and a loyal and active member of the community.
"The tragic recent events have left the family heartbroken and in deep shock.
"We request respect for our privacy at this dreadful time."
